Akinkunmi is a Global DEI Leader with extensive experience in Business Development, Strategic Communications, Stakeholder Engagement, Thought Leadership, Public Affairs, Media Relations, Trade Finance and Operations. He has worked for international organizations spanning the tech, professional services, energy and advertising sectors in North America, Europe and Africa.
He utilizes his agency to champion diversity, equity and inclusion. Akinkunmi has been published and interviewed by some of North America’s most widely read newspapers including the The Toronto Star, The Globe & Mail and Toronto.com on wide ranging DEI and anti-Black racism subject matter. He has also been featured as an expert and social commentator on Cityline TV in Canada.
In March 2021, Akinkunmi was shortlisted to join the inaugural cohort of the IE University (Madrid, Spain) Africa Centre ‘Gurus and Griots’ Educator Fellowship which was conceived to weave the wisdom and perspective of African and Afro-descendant leaders into the fabric of the IE academic community. He became an Adjunct Professor of IE University in March 2023 teaching an advanced seminar in Inclusive Organizations and Spaces. He is a founding member of The Drake Hotel Black Community Council and DEI Chair of The MINA Project (an initiative of the Learning Enrichment Foundation).
He remains committed to using his platform as a writer, commentator, public speaker and practitioner to evangelize on diversity, inclusion, anti-racism, equity, accessibility and belonging within the spaces he navigates in his lived and professional experience.
