Rocío has built a career at the intersection of public service, journalism, and international affairs, with a focus on civic engagement, migration, and transatlantic collaboration. In government, she served as Director of Community Engagement for San Antonio Mayor Ron Nirenberg, leading initiatives that connected thousands of residents to essential city resources and supporting the city’s international relations team in coordinating major events with visiting foreign delegations.
She began her professional journey as a bilingual journalist covering politics, immigration, and U.S.–Mexico relations. Her reporting has appeared in outlets including the San Antonio Report, San Antonio Express-News, PRI’s The World, Democracy Now!, Latino Rebels, and BuzzFeed, bringing nuanced, community-centered perspectives to complex policy conversations.
In the field of research and international affairs, Rocío was selected as a German Chancellor Fellow (2023–2024) under the patronage of the Federal Chancellor of Germany. During the fellowship, she completed a year-long multimedia journalism project in Darmstadt examining how local governments respond to migration and integration, offering a comparative transatlantic lens on how cities build welcoming communities.
In addition to her background in public service and journalism, Rocío currently mentors students in Spain preparing for Cambridge exams, academic writing, and U.S. college admissions, helping them strengthen their English proficiency and craft compelling personal narratives. She also works with professionals seeking to refine their business English and executive communication skills, equipping them to navigate international environments with confidence and clarity.
