Ana Celia Zentella

Ana Celia Zentella is an acclaimed linguist, anthropologist, author, and educator whose work has transformed the understanding of bilingualism, language, identity, and Latino communities in the United States. A Professor Emerita of Ethnic Studies at the University of California, San Diego and former professor at Hunter College, she has spent decades researching the linguistic practices of Puerto Rican and other Latino communities, advocating for language rights and educational equity.

Internationally recognized for her groundbreaking ethnographic research, Professor Zentella is the author of the award-winning book Growing Up Bilingual: Puerto Rican Children in New York, as well as numerous influential publications on bilingual education, sociolinguistics, and language discrimination. Her research challenges myths about multilingualism and highlights the cultural, cognitive, and social value of linguistic diversity.
