The Loudest Duck: Moving Beyond Diversity and Unconscious Bias

Training overview

The Loudest Duck focuses on why organizations need to move “beyond diversity and beyond unconscious bias.”  Organizations only get so far because of all the unconscious beliefs we have about others.  Awareness is important but everyone, from the leaders, to manager and individuals in an organization need tools to ensure a level and inclusive playing field for all and to get the true value of what a diverse workplace can achieve.

The approach, whether virtual or in person, is highly interactive and all must be present on video in the room to attend as there is no audio or videotaping or live streaming.  An e-copy or hard copy of The Loudest Duck (Wiley & Sons) is to be provided by the organization to attendees as a part of the session after the event.

Key takeaways

Why we aspire to diversity. What are the myriad diversities that are found in the workplace (a much larger number of groups than the legal or surface depictions of diverse groups) and what are unconscious beliefs about each diversity identified.

Where we get our unconscious beliefs and archetypes about others – who ‘teaches’ us about those who are not ‘like’ us. This focuses on what ‘grandma’ taught you and how diverse cultures bring varying approaches to the workplace.

Operating unconsciously in a diverse workforce creates an un-level playing field. An un level playing field means some careers go well and others not so well. It can mean that some are being over heard and some under heard and that the organization is not getting the true value and purpose of diversity. Individual behaviors are discussed and their impact on the goals and purposes of a diverse organization.

Specific examples of differences that diversity and unconscious beliefs may create
