The Power of Our Roots: Honoring Our Heritage, Shaping Our Future

Training overview

This session explores the powerful connection between our heritage, identity, and the communities we build. In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, participants will reflect on the stories, traditions, values, and experiences that have shaped who they are and how their roots influence the way they show up in both personal and professional spaces.

Through guided reflection and conversation, participants will explore how culture and heritage create a sense of belonging while recognizing the ways inherited beliefs, expectations, and experiences can sometimes create barriers to connection. The session highlights the importance of unlearning limiting narratives, embracing authenticity, and creating space for deeper understanding across communities.

Participants will examine the unique experiences within the Latino/Latina community, including the ways cultural expectations, generational experiences, and the pursuit of opportunity can impact how we connect, advocate for ourselves, and build relationships.

An interactive exercise, “If You Really Knew Me,” invites participants to share personal stories, creating meaningful moments of vulnerability, empathy, and connection. By honoring the journeys we carry and the stories that shaped us, attendees will discover how shared experiences can become a foundation for stronger relationships and more inclusive communities.

Participants will leave with a renewed appreciation for the power of their heritage, a deeper understanding of how identity shapes connection, and practical strategies to strengthen belonging and community wherever they are.
